IGCSE @ DPSIS

Cambridge, being an international curriculum and followed in more than 145 countries worldwide, sets a global standard for education, with programmes that stretch, challenge, and inspire our students. As it is student friendly, DPSIS emphasis on subject knowledge and conceptual understanding, and develop a broad range of skills, learning habits and attributes to help make them ready for the world.

The Cambridge IGCSE courses offers a mix of assessment methods, including coursework, practical exercises, oral and listening tests and written examinations according to the Cambridge guidelines. The learner and teacher attributes are built into all of our syllabuses and qualifications to ensure they are relevant, challenging and productive.

ASSESSMENT STRUCTURE

IGCSE Foundation Grade 8:

i) Every subject will have one class test.
ii) Final Examinations will be held in October/November.

Weightage:
Cyclic test: 50 marks
Final Examinations: 100 marks

IGCSE Grade 9:

The assessment criteria is based on a variety of tools which is used to evaluate concept comprehension. In addition to conducting periodic formal written 2 Class tests and 2 term examinations, we conduct Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation of all student work, including written work; homework; projects; individual and group activities; research and analysis; presentation skills; and speaking and listening ability.

In order to arrive at a final grade, weightage is assigned as follows:

  1. Every subject will have two class tests.
  2. Term Examinations will be held in May and Final Term Examinations will be held in October/ November.

Weightage:

  1. Class test: 50 marks
  2. Term Examinations: 100 marks
  3. Final Examinations: Marks and weightage will be as per CAIE Subject guidelines.
  4. Only grades will be shown on the result sheet.

IGCSE Grade 10:

DPSIS’s internal assessments serve as valuable preparation for students, aiding them in readiness for the final examinations and identifying both their strengths and areas for improvement. This enables students to adjust their study strategies accordingly. In Grade 10, preliminary examinations are administered in May and August, providing students with an understanding of what to anticipate when they undertake the actual examinations in October/November.

Internal assessment structure

  1. One class test: 50 marks
  2. Two Preliminary Examinations
  3. Marks and weightage will be as per CAIE subject guidelines.
  4. CAIE (Board) Examination will be held in October/ November as per CAIE timetable which will be announced at a later date.

Grades are benchmarked using eight internationally recognised grades, A* to G, which have clear guidelines to explain the standard of achievement for each grade.

PROMOTION POLICY

IGCSE Grade 8 and 9

Promotion is based on the aggregate score of tests and exams with a minimum grade of E along with continual assessment report.

Students scoring less than grade E in each subject and in aggregate will be granted conditional promotion. The final discretion in this regard will be with the school authorities.

IGCSE Grade 10

After students sit for the final exams in October/November, their test papers are sent to Cambridge for grading. Grades are benchmarked to ensure consistent evaluations. The results are sent to school    by mid-January. Students can receive an internationally recognised grade from A* to G. Cambridge ICE (based on the criteria) is awarded to students who pass in at least seven subjects in Cambridge IGCSE. Students are considered to have done extremely well if they receive an A*, A, B or C grade.

Students with exceptional talents are Awarded both in Academics and Activities.

Scholastic

Criteria: Outstanding academic results, best discipline, punctual, good team player and well behaved. -  an all rounder

Awarding a Scholar Badge is an honored DPSIS tradition. It is awarded from Cambridge Year 4 onwards, to students getting grade A and above as the final aggregate.

Criteria for selection:

  • Grade A and above in aggregate with grade E in every other subject
  • A pass in all Subjects is a must to qualify for a Scholar Badge

Silver Badge:

  • Will be awarded to a student who fulfills the Scholar Badge criteria for 3 consecutive years

Gold Badge:

  • Will be awarded to a student who fulfills the Scholar Badge criteria for 6 consecutive years

Merit Certificate Prizes:

  • Subject Proficiencies
  • Rank Certificates/ Prizes

 

Non-Scholastic

Criteria: Creativity, Maximum participation in activities, highly talented, and winner of most events participated.

Thought Provoking Question

At DPSIS student on completion of Grade 7 is offered option to undertake IGCSE curriculum. Grade 8 is the foundation year for the ensuing Grade 9 and Grade 10 ‘O’ Level Cambridge curriculum. Cambridge IGCSE is designed to be taught as a two-year course.

Each Cambridge IGCSE syllabus is accompanied by a resource list with full details of books and other materials that may be useful in the classroom. Teachers are also provided with a range of resources and support materials to equip them with the skills they need to teach Cambridge IGCSE courses.

  • The course differs for each subject, but throughout, there will be a mix of assessment methods, including coursework, practical exercises, oral and listening tests, projects and written examinations.
  • Cambridge IGCSE courses usually take two years to complete and examinations
    are taken at the end of this period.
  • Examinations are held in June and November each year with results issued in August and January respectively.
