Life in DPSIS:
How the House System Enriches Students
The first sight greeting anyone stepping onto our sprawling grounds is the series of banners celebrating the four Houses that define every student’s school life at DPSIS – Glacier, Lake, Oasis, and Spring. Our House System is the bedrock of a holistic education, allowing students of all year groups myriad opportunities to learn beyond the classroom walls while fostering a culture of teamwork, respect and loyalty.
Experience the vibrant life at DPS International School (DPSIS) through our enriching House System, where students from Grade 1 form close-knit ties, fostering solidarity and friendships. This system nurtures leadership, providing roles for captains and vice-captains who, mentored by teachers, contribute to discipline and act as role models. Rewarding success, it encourages healthy competition and builds determination. Beyond academics, themed Houses create a sense of belonging, and team-building activities, sports events, and community programs foster camaraderie and friendship. Embrace life at DPSIS, where the House System transforms education into a holistic, joyful journey of growth and achievement.
Team Glacier strives to display all the qualities of their house colour RED – courage, passion and energy. Their motto ‘Ad Alta’ – to the summit – is a clarion call to set a goal and achieve it. It is a reminder that obstacles make us stronger, and often, more determined as we collectively reach for our lofty ideals and dreams.
Team Lake sports the colour BLUE symbolising trust, sincerity and loyalty. Together, the Lake House members give wings to their dreams with their inspiring House motto, ‘Soaring towards the horizon’. We are all reminded to soar beyond our perceived limits and pursue our dreams with unwavering determination.
Team Oasis proudly wears the colour universally associated with nature, the environment as well as health, growth and progress – GREEN. Inspired by the beautiful motto ‘Messiahs of the Desert’, members feel inspired to unleash their creative life force and serve as change agents transforming the deserts of life into an oasis of peace, joy and harmony.
Spring House spreads sunny optimism, happiness and creativity with their House colour – Yellow. They avail every opportunity to amply demonstrate their motto ‘Spring in Action’ as Springles are buoyed by the spirit of enthusiasm and enlightenment denoted by their House colour. The motto is a reminder of the proactive spirit that must be nurtured in each student to pursue their goals purposefully and effectively.
Benefits of being in a DPSIS House
All students at DPSIS begin their journey as members of a House from Grade 1 promoting interaction among Housemates of all levels. Our House System allows new members to quickly forge new ties and feel the joy of being a valued member of a close-knit team. Working together for a common goal and celebrating achievements creates a motivated student body and a positive sense of community. When students feel accepted, respected, included, and supported by others create, they are empowered to accomplish all their goals!
Our House System offers students many roles, including leadership, which is incredibly essential as children are more easily influenced by their peers and need student role models. Each House is headed by a House Captain supported by Co-Captains and Vice Captains, who are mentored by the House Warden and House Teachers. Our young leaders also help in maintaining school discipline.
We have witnessed a positive correlation between student engagement and scholastic as well as extra-curricular achievement. Our House System encourages healthy competition within a supportive environment and builds resolve, determination, discipline and resilience. Students enthusiastically get involved in diverse events as they are encouraged and motivated by House mates and mentors. Points are awarded to the students throughout the year for participation in diverse extra-curricular activities and sports. At the end of the year the house gaining the highest number of points wins ‘The Best House Trophy’. It serves to recognise, congratulate, and reward the students’ collective efforts in bringing glory to their House and school.

Thought Provoking Question
All students from Grade 1 onwards are assigned to any one of the four Houses: Glacier, Lake, Oasis, and Spring, ensuring a balanced mix of ages and abilities in each House, fostering inter-grade interaction and fostering a sense of belonging for everyone.
Beyond simply being a House member, students can take on various leadership roles. Each House has a Captain, Co-Captains, and Vice-Captains who lead the way in various activities and projects. Students can prepare for these positions by demonstrating involvement in House activities, taking on leadership roles in smaller groups or projects in the classroom and participating in intra-school and inter-school competitive events.
Additionally, students can volunteer for specific tasks within their House, such as assisting with events, mentoring younger members, or contributing ideas for House spirit initiatives.

• Building strong bonds: The system fosters a sense of belonging and community through shared experiences and teamwork. Students make friends across grades and learn to collaborate effectively towards common goals.
• Developing leadership skills: From taking on leadership roles to simply contributing ideas, the House System empowers students to take initiative, make decisions, and inspire others.
